Wooly World
So is yarn a genre now? Like first Kirby’s Epic Yarn and now Yoshi’s Wooly World. Then there’s Unravel announced at E3 as well.
I’m not being critical, both games look amazing. Unravel is kind of an exception, as only the character is yarn based. Kirby and the new Yoshi game however involve the entire world being constructed of wool based product, and I’m just curious as to how Nintendo even came to the decision to run with this art aesthetic.
I can answer your question! Wooly World and Epic Yarn were both made by a third party company specializing in yarn textures that Nintendo licensed the characters to; Woolly World is being made as a result of Epic Yarn’s success, though it was very slow in the making, having been announced Yeeears ago. Unravel is a result of convergent evolution; Yarny represents the folkloric concept of the Red String of Fate that binds people’s lives together; the plot of the game seems to involve Yarny secretly helping people connect to each other by his actions.
