Quantum of Nintendo
This comic is meant to be a parody of Nintendo’s current Wii U TV ads.
So back when the Wii U launched and was having sales issues, I had a little thought about it. The Wii did tremendously well, but the demographic of a lot of those numbers needs to be kept in mind. Most of the people that I knew who bought the Wii were not in any way gamers. It was a fad to them and they got in on it. When I tried to strike up conversation with them about the Wii U, their responses towards the second system ranged anywhere between “I already have a Wii” or “that’s stupid, I don’t need that.” Meaning they are either content with what they have and don’t understand why they should upgrade to a next-gen, or they just got over the fad of motion gaming. (Or they’re pissed because it didn’t actually help them lose weight.)
Anyways. The point I’m making is that on top of their already loyal Nintendo base, most of those booming numbers came from non-gamers who aren’t going to upgrade simply because they don’t even use the Wii they already have enough to want to upgrade. And I get the feeling Nintendo is aware of this. I’ve noticed that all the ads involve kids devising a plan to get their parents to buy them the Wii U, but are dealing with the obstacle that their parents say “We already have a Wii”.
So there could or could not be a correlation between my suspicion about why the Wii U didn’t sell as well as the Wii did, and the ads Nintendo is running. I mean, that’s just a suspicion as I said based on observation of a few people, there’s no real basis. Either way, I’m happy to see the Wii U has been doing really well recently. I do really like Nintendo and always get my hands on their new portable systems. The Wii isn’t completely my thing but it has a respected fan base and I’m happy it’s doing well and giving them really great games haha

At the alt text: You’d be a great dad. The wife & kids would probably have no idea you were in the house. The husband knew, he did, but you remedied that…
I only got a 3DS a few weeks ago myself. I’ve skipped the PS3/360 gen and now I’m mostly skipping the PS4/Bone gen in favor of things to come. As far as I’m concerned, the Wii U is the console that never should have been. I’m sure I’ll change my mind when the next Smash Bros finally comes out, though.
Am I the hero of a romantic comedy or the villain of a suspense horror? Probably the latter. Most definitely the latter.
The new Smash Bros is out on 3DS too so I’m not even worried haha
Hey, everyone likes a good hero but they love a great villain.
I’ve heard whispers that there will be characters exclusive to the 3DS and characters exclusive to the Wii U, and so you will have to play 3DS against Wii U to unlock a few of the characters. While that may or may not be true, I would honestly be shocked if they didn’t at least do that with some of the stages
As long as the base characters are there I won’t complain haha
But what if Mewtwo is exclusive to the Wii U? That would suck.
Well, since my brother got a Wii U and I’ve been playing it a bit with him, I actually can comment slightly. Although I’ve only played Super Mario Land 3D (and OMG IT’S SO GOOD GUYS), but the entire set up of the Wii U is friendlier, even, than the Wii. And I mean everything. Also the fact that the Gamepad can be used to control your TV and everything is just… yeah it’s great. And for a lot of the games that require the Gamepad, it works like the 3DS in the sense that the TV is your top screen and the Gamepad has your secondary screen. Of which I’m sure everyone is aware but I wasn’t keeping up on it because it just sounded like a Wii with a makeover, but now that I’ve seen it in action it’s pretty cool.
That sounds really awesome actually. My main complaint with the Wii was that it made things just a little bit too reliant on the motion targeting. If the Gamepad factions as a controller with a screen on it, that makes things much more appealing to me.
