Guest Comic By Cesar Reyes

Apr 16, 2015

Dedicated fan Cesar Reyes provides another comic in service of me needing time off! Be sure to check out his DeviantArt!

I enjoy the commentary on “comic time” in the comic. Officially the characters are only on their first few weeks of school but in that time there has been four Halo games released, the entire Hobbit trilogy, a new console generation, a presidential election, and loads of other events and media that has been referenced. Again, “comic time”. That’s the explanation.

Bart Simpson has been in the fourth grade for like over 25 years or something.

Oh hey Star Wars trailer.

Comic time/narrative time is interesting. For instance, I believe I saw somewhere that Jeph Jacques said that Questionable Content takes place “simultaneously in the future and present day but it’s also only 2006” (something along those lines). Commander Kidd has spent its entire run going over the events of two days; Nerf This has spent the last year and a half covering about four hours of events; in Two Guys and Guy each individual comic strip is canonically its own separate universe so there is no time continuity; and all 20+ seasons and 20+ movies in the Pokemon franchise have somehow taken place over the course of less than six months.

    Ugh, my head hurts now.

I guess most of the game comics can either be considered non-canon or just fit wherever they work. Like the Flappy Birds / Dark Souls II comic that was made after the cell phone story arc. You could say that that comic takes place DURING the cell phone arc, so its technically an additional annoyance that Bryan put up with before they said “no more phones for Austin”.

This doesn’t save the narrative from most time shenanigans. But it helps.

When in doubt, “Comic time”. Comic Time is always the reason.

Comic time is actually the one thing by which Homestuck looks sane in comparison; acts 1-4 take place over the course of one day, the first half of act five takes place over the course of a few weeks but in another universe, he end of act five takes place at the end of that first day, and act six begins about 2.5 years later, with the current act exactly three years from the very first day, putting us in…2011.

      That sounds…
      Sheesh.
Homestuck has just too much going on for me to keep track of ANYTHING, let alone the timeline. You folks who can keep track of all those things are on the right side of that line between genius and insanity.

Meaning my comic either hasn’t started or is barely starting somewhere among that madness.

You’re not making me memorize two/three different names each for 30+ characters, most of whom have different styles of L337 for their dialogue.

Also we’re all technically dead in Homestuck continuity. BUT our trolls are canon.
