# The Last Given Checkpoint

The Halo games, at least for me anyways, are notorious for having unforgiving checkpoints. You’ll win one of many battles, but the game wont save your progress automatically like it is supposed to. You wont notice and just assume it did it’s job, walk into the next battle, die, and then suddenly you’re back three battles ago, refighting all the enemies you just beat and shouldn’t have had to beat again. This can be a real bitch on the Legendary difficulty.

I don’t think it’s intentional and I think it sometimes happens due to a glitch and it’s less a problem in later games like Halo 3 and Reach.

It was mostly a bitch in Halo 1 and 2. Halo 1 for sure. When the remake of Halo 1 was released here last November, it was perfectly identical gameplay wise to its predecessor. Nothing was touched, for better and for worse. For worse being the checkpoints, or the lack thereof.
