Rated Teen

Aug 16, 2015

Halo 5: Guardians will be the second console Halo game rated T for Teen, Halo Wars being the first.

Personally, I always felt Halo was pretty timid for a Mature title. That could just be me. But I’ve never found the language to be too extreme, certainly nothing I would say around a child or my grandmother. There was a lot more blood in the first few games but that’s pretty much been overshadowed by games like Gears of War and Doom as far as gore goes. For its time, I think the Mature title made sense. But there are games out there that have pushed the edges.

What I’m saying is I don’t think Halo 5 is going to be any less mature than it was before. I just think the ESRB thought about it and realized there’s way more intense games hitting their desk every year. Halo 4 had someone displayed directly center of the camera being disintegrated (a scene that still gives me chills) so perhaps if Halo 4 hadn’t had that scene, it’d have been rated Teen as well.

I don’t see it as a good thing or bad thing. Just a thing. Ultimately it means high school teenagers won’t have to walk around on each other’s shoulders in a trench coat to buy the game. Or, you know, just get their parents to do it. Which seems a little more logical come to think of it.

I think with the advent of the E10+ rating they’re able to gauge a better rating system before it was either E which was meant as 6 years and up and teen being 14+ they either lumped them with one or the other, and if it wasn’t in that mid ground they’d go with M

I think more fluid ratings would benefit the system. Psychonauts for example is rated T for Teen but it just feels like an Everyone at least 10+ game. The Teen rating implies more edgy content but it mostly got the rating because they say ass once or twice haha otherwise it was just a cartoon about a kid with brain powers and it was amazing.

well, they wanted to avoid the E rating and it was made before the E10+ rating so they did try bumping it up a little, though to be fair the themes in the game itself are pretty strong even for e10+

I don’t recall anything too edgy in it. Maybe it was the whole theme of psychological abuse. But it was all shown in such cartoony ways haha

That’s a picture of them serving a tour in Iraq? I thought it was a Taco Bell bathroom.
